(small restaurant).

After lunch, a car driver will pick you up at la Suiza and provide a short transfer (15 min) to

Casa Turire Hotel your home base for tonight.

Casa Turire makes you remember a beautiful house located in a farm during the colonial time. Located at less than 2 hours east of San Jose in the heart of the green and agricultural region of Turrialba, this beautiful place is bordered by La Angostura Lake and the impressive presence of Turrialba mountains that offer you an amazing landscape.

Distance: 16,7 kms  (589 m ascent; 491 m descent)

Level of difficulty: Beginner

After breakfast, you will start off at La Suiza footbridge and after a few steps you can take in a magnificent view of La Angostura Lagoon. You’ll continue on a dirt road for 2 kilometers until we reach a plain and the main road. If it is not harvest time, we can walk through the cane fields. Otherwise, we continue on the main road, alternating between paved and gravel stretches, until we reach La Roca Restaurant for lunch.

After lunch, we head for Pejibaye, and from there to the Humo de Pejibaye community. These last kilometers are paved and go through these two town centers.

You‘ll reach Copal Reserve for your overnight stay and your next birding tour. El Copal is a destination for birders from all over the world. Hot during the day and cold at night.

El Copal Reserve makes part of a biological corridor between Tapantí-Macizo de la Muerte National Park and La Amistad International Park. Over 380 bird species have been identified in El Copal' Rainforest Reserve.

Accommodations are rustic. In the main building you can find 5 rooms with shared bathrooms facilities and two rooms have private bath. These rooms have electricity. 50 mts away from main building, the lodge features two cabins with private bath but no electricity. Rooms at main building are surrounded by a verandah strung with hammocks, where you can relax and enjoy the tanager parade. El Copal's light-filled dining room serves some of the best native cuisine.

Dinner included at the lodge.

After breakfast, we leave from the Río Perlas Hotel towards the Muñeco de Navarro community, y and then on to Rancho Silvia Flores. There you will have a delicious cup of coffee prepared by Doña Silvia and rest before a steep climb which will lead us to Chiquiza, where our journey meets up with the southern Inter-american Highway.

The route ascending to Chíquiza is advanced. You will walk on a gravel road and then on tracts of a dirt and muddy trail. There is one approximately 800-meter tract that can be very challenging in the rainy season. Then you’ll continue on to the rather barren peak, which allows for a wonderful view of the valley below.

Once we arrive in Chíquiza, we walk about 100 meters on the southern Inter-american Highway, and then we take a 1 km detour towards the entrance to Palo Verde, where we end our route.

Enjoy a delicious, well deserved lunch at Verdesana Lodge (included). Your driver will be waiting for you to transfer you to your next destination that could be: San Gerardo de Dota, San Jose, Dominical or Manuel Antonio.
