Discover the New Santosha Luxury Lofts at The Retreat Costa Rica
Just 30 minutes from San José International Airport, The Retreat Costa Rica—voted #6 Destination Spa & Resort in the world by the 2024 Condé Nast Readers’ Choice Awards—continues to redefine luxury wellness travel with the launch of the Santosha Luxury Lofts.
These elegant, expansive accommodations mark a significant expansion of the resort’s award-winning offerings.
Where Design And Tranquility Meet
“This was a giant leap,” says founder Diana Stobo, reflecting on transforming a hillside residence into a 40,000-square-foot sanctuary. “It’s 100% me—every detail, from the ambient air system to the custom mosaic in the pool. It’s a project I’m incredibly proud of”.
Built lower on the resort’s crystal-quartz mountain, the new lofts offer quieter surroundings and closer contact with the landscape. They’re a short walk from the main yoga pavilion, restaurant, and spa—but that walk is intentional. It slows the pace and draws guests into the forest’s rhythm.
Inside, the lofts are spacious, calming, and built with purpose. Natural light fills the rooms through large windows. Private terraces look out over the green valley. King beds with organic linens, soaking tubs, and plant-based toiletries make comfort simple and soothing—not fussy.
Extras like an essential oil diffuser, nightly turndown service, and a copy of Diana Stobo’s book, Get Naked Fast, reflect the property’s holistic philosophy.
“You wake to the sound of birds, wrapped in space and silence,” Diana explains. “It’s elegant, expansive, and makes you feel like royalty in the jungle”.
"I created Santosha as a space where high design meets the raw beauty of Costa Rica — an invitation to experience luxury not through excess, but through expansiveness, stillness, and the kind of beauty that stays with you."
Wellness Reimagined
The new Santosha Wellness Club offers a comprehensive fitness experience with a spacious, light-filled gym featuring cardio machines, strength training equipment, and room for functional movement.
Adjacent is a fully enclosed yoga Shala designed for private sessions and group classes, emphasizing calm, focus, and inward connection. A 48-foot lap pool and elevated hot tub—both shaded and secluded—provide ideal spaces for recovery and reflection.
A New Culinary Destination
The Santosha expansion also brings three new culinary venues, elevating the resort’s gastronomic appeal:
- Mystique – A high-end, rooftop dining concept offering an intimate and refined culinary journey.
- La Diosa – A jungle-view lounge serving indigenous-inspired cocktails and small plates in a relaxed, luxurious setting.
- The Chef’s Kitchen – An interactive, open kitchen for casual daytime fare and curated culinary experiences.
All three restaurants are guided by Chef Pablo Bonilla, ranked among Latin America’s Top 50 chefs, known for his innovative approach to Costa Rica’s indigenous flavors. “He’s building menus rooted in authenticity, but elevated to fine dining,” says Diana.
The New First or Final Stop in Costa Rica
For high-end travelers seeking an extraordinary start or end to their Costa Rica journey, The Retreat’s location and amenities make it an ideal “bookend” experience.
“This isn’t just another wellness resort,” Diana says. “It’s a boutique hotel with the sophistication and operations of a world-class resort—and there’s nothing else like it.”
