What to bring

What to Bring:Clothing: Costa Rica is a very informal and casual country. Formal attire is only used in the city of San Jose and on very special occasions (Weddings, birthdays, anniversaries) We recommend to bring a sweater for the highland areas, and light loose fitting shirts, pants or jeans, and shorts for the lowland areas. For the beach areas please dont forget to bring a hat or cap, sunscreen, and sun glasses. For the rainforest and the National Parks we recommend hiking boots, a small backpack, water bottle, pocket knife, flashlight, insect repellent, rainwear, and a pair of binoculars to observe animals.

Day 01: Arrival / San Jose

Meet and greet at the international airport and transfer to the city hotel where you will be staying for your first night in Costa Rica.

Overnight at Presidente Hotel, Standard Room, breakfast included.

Day 02: Arenal Volcano

After an orientation meeting with a Costa Rican Trails representative, you will receive your 4X4 vehicle and drive through the scenic San Carlos Valley to Arenal Volcano where you will check in your hotel.

One of the most impressive volcanoes of the world, cloud forests, a lake world-famous for windsurfing and an incredibly diverse population of wildlife is what you will find in this area. But these are not the only attractions of this area. Bass fishing, windsurfing, hot springs, waterfalls, hiking and the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge make this an ideal stop for many travelers.

Overnight at Casa Luna Hotel, Standard Deluxe Garden View Room, breakfast included.

Day 03 & 04: Rincon de la Vieja

Depart for Rincon de la Vieja National Park. Upon arrival you will check into Hacienda Guachipelin, an excellent base for exploring the park. During your two-night stay here, a wide range of activities is made available to you. Choose from a tour to the blue lagoon at Rincon de la Vieja National Park viewing bubbling mud pools and fumaroles, horseback riding, mountain biking, nature hikes, or just browsing through the insect and butterfly collection or the serpentarium at the lodge

Day 05 & 06: Monteverde Cloud Forest

Depart after breakfast for the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, one of the most diverse and richest tropical could forests in the New World and home of the resplendent Quetzal and the rare bellbird. Monteverde is not only interesting for the Cloud Forest Reserve inhabitants, but also for its founders, the Quakers.

The Trapp Family Lodge will be your home base for two nights. After check in, feel free to explore your new surroundings. The next day set out to discover the secrets of the misty forest with its dense vegetation and majestic trees, either from the bottom while you hike or from the top of the trees while you walk on the hanging bridges of the Sky Walk or while taking an adventurous canopy tour.
