What to bring

Clothing: Costa Rica is a very informal and casual country. Formal attire is only used in the city of San Jose and on very special occasions (Weddings, birthdays, anniversaries) We recommend to bring a sweater for the highland areas, and light loose fitting shirts, pants or jeans, and shorts for the lowland areas. For the beach areas please dont forget to bring a hat or cap, sunscreen, and sun glasses. For the rainforest and the National Parks we recommend hiking boots, a small backpack, water bottle, pocket knife, flashlight, insect repellent, rainwear, and a pair of binoculars to observe animals.

Day 01: Arrival / San Jose

Meet & greet at the international airport and transfer to the Presidente Hotel for your first night in Costa Rica.

Overnight at Presidente Hotel, Standard Room, breakfast included.

Day 02 & 03: Tortuguero

Early morning pick up for the drive through the Braulio Carrillo National Park to the canals lining the Atlantic Coast, where the two-hour boat trip to Tortuguero starts. A typical breakfast is served on the way. Tortuguero National Park, with its 21,000 hectares of preserved tropical rain forest, provides one of the best opportunities to experience a wide range of tropical wildlife.

During your two-night stay, the guided boat tours through the canals will entertain and educate you. Toucans, parrots, howler and white-faced monkeys, caimans, a variety of water and seafowls, and poison dart frogs will keep your eyes roaming for hours.

Overnight at Laguna Lodge, Standard Room, all meals and tours included.

Day 04: San Jose

Enjoy the short flight back to San Jose after breakfast. Transfer back to Presidente Hotel. Day at leisure for exploring San Jose and the surrounding Central Valley.

Overnight at Presidente Hotel, Standard Room, breakfast included.

Day 05: Monteverde

Morning pickup at Presidente Hotel  for the scenic drive to Monteverde. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is one of the most diverse and richest tropical cloud forests in the New World and home to the resplendent Quetzal and the rare bell bird. Monteverde is not only interesting for the Cloud Forest Reserve's inhabitants, but also for its founders, the Quakers.
Monteverde Country Lodge will be your home-base for two nights. After check in feel free to explore your new surroundings.

Overnight at Monteverde Country Lodge, Superior room, breakfast included.

Day 06: Monteverde Reserve & Butterfly garden

After breakfast, visit the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve. It is among the most famous reserves in the world for its biodiversity, conservation, contributions, and scientific researches. You will hike through the well-marked-trails, waterfalls, rivers, and the observation area of the park. If you are lucky you might spot a "Quetzal", one of the most beautiful birds in the world. You will also see an amazing variety of flora and fauna on this tour.

Enjoy an afternoon tour to a butterfly garden where you will see many species of tropical butterflies native to Costa Rica. Butterflies are most active while it is sunny and warm so these greenhouses ensure that you can see butterflies year round no matter what the weather is like. Another advantage of the Monteverde Butterfly Garden is the diversity of species.
