Clothing: Costa Rica is a very informal and casual country. Formal attire is only used in the city of San Jose and on very special occasions (Weddings, birthdays, anniversaries) We recommend to bring a sweater for the highland areas, and light loose fitting shirts, pants or jeans, and shorts for the lowland areas. For the beach areas please dont forget to bring a hat or cap, sunscreen, and sun glasses. For the rainforest and the National Parks we recommend hiking boots, a small backpack, water bottle, pocket knife, flashlight, insect repellent, rainwear, and a pair of binoculars to observe animals.
Arrival to the Juan Santamaria Airport. A representative from Costa Rican Trails will meet you at the airport to take you to your hotel located in down town San Jose.
Overnight at Presidente Hotel, Standard room. Breakfast included.
Today our adventure starts early morning to reach the Pacuare River for a rafting trip. This river has been officially declared a Wild and Scenic River, and offers some of the finest white water in Latin America, winding deep inside of one of Costa Ricas most impressive primordial rainforests. Breakfast on route and lunch is served along the river. After this tour, our representative will transfer you under shuttle bus basis to the Arenal area.
Arenal’s perfectly symmetrical shape makes it a sightseer’s dream, while its abundance of outdoor activities makes it an easy place to check things off your “must-do in Costa Rica” list. So visit one of the nicest volcanoes in Costa Rica, cloud forests, a lake world-famous for windsurfing and an incredibly diverse population of wildlife is just part of what you will find in this amazing area of Costa Rica.

Morning at leisure.
Before the active period of 1968, a lavish canopy of vegetation covered the Arenal Volcano. People that climbed Arenal’ s summit related that inside the crater there were big trees and at night, they slept in places where there was some heat due to small steam outlets.
Enjoy the most extraordinary view of the Arenal Volcano on a hike along the base and flanks of this giant on the Arenal 1968 park. For this tour we have choose one of the park’s most extraordinary trails to the 1968 lava flows: the remaining memory of the 20th century first eruption and some other areas now in the process of regeneration. We are going to be on this trail for about 2 ½ hours.
The “Colada 68” trail will give you the best of the best hiking over lava flows in all the Arenal Volcano area, walk on rocky areas, feel the power and serenity of nature, enjoy amazing views of the Arenal Lake and the Monteverde mountains, plus an insight contact with the local flora and fauna and a great chance for some birdwatching and animal encounters.
At the hot springs our customers can enjoy a healthy and relaxing soak, it is also possible to see the sunset over the Arenal Volcano area while you rest at comfortable spa.
Dinner is included and served at Tabacon Hot Springs restaurant.
Overnight at Volcano Lodge, Superior room. Breakfast included.
This service, half tour – half transfer is an scenic, fast and the newest way to go or come from La Fortuna (Arenal Volcano Area), to the Monteverde area.
Around 7:30 a.m. we start picking everybody from the hotels in La Fortuna for a 30 minutes microbus drive to the Arenal Lake Dam.
There we will aboard into a very comfortable and safe pontoon boat for a 30 to 40 minutes (aprox.) ride to Río Chiquito, a little town at the other side of the lake.
Arenal Lake is the largest and the most important lake in Costa Rica, it was man made in 1974 to provide hydroelectric energy for the country. It is also a place where you can find different kinds of resident and migratory birds. Sometimes mammals can be seen in the surroundings, also great views of the Arenal Volcano when it’s clear.
Once at Río Chiquito, we’ll leave the boat and make a short break to strength the legs, after, another 1 1 / 2 hour microbus ride to get to the hotels in the Monteverde area, sometimes during the rainy season this transfer could take longer.
Monteverde was founded about 40 years ago by a small group of conservation-minded Quakers who were looking for a peaceful place to live. Its Cloud Forest Reserve is one of the most outstanding wild life sanctuaries in the tropics. Check in at Hotel Trapp Family Lodge or similar.
Overnight at Hotel Trapp Family Lodge, Superior room. Breakfast included.
Sky Trek is a thrilling zip line circuit that’s located in both of our parks, Monteverde and La Fortuna. Your tour will start riding an open-air gondola from the ground to the heights where you’ll be dropped off at an observation area for fantastic views. From this area, you will start riding down on a zip line track stretching across canyons and in between treetops, the exhilarating adventure of zip lining down the mountainside begins; ultimately returning you to the starting point at the main building. This is the most thrilling zip line in the country.

The warm waters of the Pacific are home to a large variety of tropical fish that are looking forward to swim with you as you snorkel and explore the underwater world with your guide.
