Las Catalinas: Easy to Explore
Las Catalinas is a walkable coastal town in northern Guanacaste. Your Guests can leave the car behind and explore its streets, walk to Playa Danta or follow a trail to nearby Playa Dantita. Swimming, snorkelling and kayaking are options when sea conditions allow.
Behind town, more than 1,000 acres of protected tropical dry forest hold 25 miles of hiking and biking trails. Your Guests can head out early for a ride, then spend the afternoon at the beach.
A catamaran outing combines stops for swimming and snorkelling with lunch on board. Local guides lead horseback rides along Brasilito and Conchal. Near Tamarindo, your Guests can zipline through the forest or take a boat through the mangroves to look for crocodiles, iguanas and birds.
For a full-day excursion, Rincón de la Vieja offers volcanic mud pots, steaming vents, waterfalls and a soak in the Río Negro hot springs. For a special evening closer to home, we can arrange dinner on the beach at sunset.
A Private Home with Daily Service
Two fully serviced homes are now available through Costa Rican Trails. Each accommodates up to 10 Guests in five king suites with private bathrooms. One suite is on a separate lower level, a useful detail when planning sleeping arrangements for a family or group.
Each home has an ocean-facing plunge pool and terraces overlooking the Pacific. Breakfast, housekeeping and concierge service are included. Your Guests also have access to the town’s wellness and fitness facilities, tennis and pickleball courts, and forest trails.
These homes suit multigenerational families and groups of couples who want to stay together, with daily service and plenty to do within walking distance.
Nosara: Surf, Yoga and Time Outdoors
Further south, Nosara draws travellers who like to spend their days in and around the water. Playa Guiones is known for its consistent surf, with lessons available for beginners and coaching for more experienced surfers. Yoga studios, wellness centres and local restaurants give your Guests plenty to do between sessions.
A morning might start with a surf lesson, followed by lunch and an afternoon by the pool. On another day, your Guests could join a naturalist for a walk to three waterfalls with natural swimming pools, or explore the Nosara estuary and mangroves by boat.
Nearby San Juanillo offers snorkelling when conditions allow. Horseback rides follow Nosara Beach and continue into the hills, while quad-bike tours explore the surrounding dry forest.
More Room for Families
Seven new villas expand the options for families in Nosara, including those travelling with young children. Set between the jungle and the ocean, they are a short walk from their associated hotel.
Each villa has a kitchen and private plunge pool. One-bedroom villas accommodate up to three Guests, two-bedroom villas up to five, and three-bedroom villas up to seven.
The villas suit families who want to combine surf lessons and outdoor activities with time together at home. They also work well for friends who want their own kitchen and pool, with the surf nearby.
