Educational & Community Program

This program combines three different activities of growing experiences… You will have Spanish lessons in a Costa Rican Language School so you can communicate with others and learn about the Costa Rica idiosyncrasy… Then you will help with community programs of the Curridabat neighborhood and finally you will visit two of the most important tourist areas of Costa Rica, the Arenal Volcano and the Central Pacific

Day 01 Arrival – San Jose :
Upon arrival in San José a representative from Costa Rican Trails will meet you at the airport and take you to the Hotel Milvia in San Pedro.

Overnight at MILVIA HOTEL, standard room, breakfast included.

Day 02 San Jose – La Fortuna / Arenal :
Shuttle transfer to La Fortuna.

One of the most active volcanoes of the world, cloud forests, a world-famous lake for windsurfing and an incredibly diverse population of wildlife is what you will find in this area. The flawless silhouette of Arenal Volcano, its loud rumblings and frequent explosions of lava and ash are a sight not to be missed by any visitor to Costa Rica. But by no means are these the only attractions in this area. Bass fishing, windsurfing, hot springs, waterfalls, hiking and Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge make this an ideal stop for many travelers.

In the afternoon, get ready for you Arenal Volcano Hike & Ecotermales Hot Springs.

Arenal Volcano is breathtaking after dark when its thundering explosions and bursts of glowing rock light the night sky. This volcano is active since 1968; it constantly ejects gases, water, fumaroles and explosions with pyroclastic material emissions and sometimes the eruptions are accompanied with powerful thunders.

Ecotermales Fortuna has 4 different pools with different temperatures the coolest one is 91 degrees Fahrenheit and the hottest one is 105 Fahrenheit, one of the pools has a cascading waterfall for a natural soothing back massage. Buffet dinner is included.

Day 03 La Fortuna / Arenal - San Jose :
Morning at leisure.
Shuttle transfer to San José

Day 04 San Jose :
After breakfast, get ready for your community service at CEN-CINAI.

The CEN-CINAI is a governmental organization that has more than a hundred locations around the country. At CEN-CINAI centers, volunteers have the chance to help the staff take care of children who usually come from low income families or single mother families that depend on this system to attend their children needs while working.

These centers not only support the children’s basic needs, they also provide education and professional assistance for the families in cases of violence or abuse. The volunteers working at the CEN-CINAIS support the staff in areas as education, meal preparation, cleaning and maintenance, among others.

There is a lot to do in these centers and therefore any help is gladly welcome.

Day 05 San Jose :
After breakfast, get ready for your community service at the Nursery Home.

You will work at nursing homes helping the staff to take care of the residents needs, or of those who just spend the day.

There are usually around 25 to 50 people living at these kinds of facilities, some of them are taken there by their families to spend the day while they work, but many of them have been abandoned by their relatives. These centers provide the residents with accommodations, food, health care and company as well.

Those who volunteer at these centers help in tasks as cleaning, cooking, washing, caretaking, or just planning recreational activities for the residents and visitors to enjoy during their leisure time.

Day 06 San José :
After breakfast, get ready for your community service at an Elementary School.

You will work at a school by supporting the physical education lessons. The assistance in this department is really important for some schools, due to the lack of staff they have in this area.

The volunteers who want to work for schools can also help in tasks as cleaning, cooking and maintenance and are welcome to propose and coordinate projects as green areas maintenance, tree planning activities, school physical areas improvement, recycling programs etc…

Day 07 San José :
After breakfast, get ready for your community service at the Curridabat Parks.

The Municipality of Currridabat opened a volunteering project to repair and maintain the parks, playgrounds and community public areas. As part of this project, the municipality is requesting the collaboration of volunteers in order to grow trees in areas where deforestation may cause the rivers to overflow their banks.

In the afternoon you will have Spanish lessons.

Day 08 San José - Jacó :
Shuttle transfer to the Central Pacifica area.

Overnight at the HOTEL BEST WESTERN JACO BEACH, standard room, breakfast included.

Day 09 Jacó :
Day at leisure at the Central Pacific. You may book any of the tour options in the area such as: Canopy tour, Crocodrile Safari Tour, Aerial Tram and more….

The Central Pacific region encompasses almost everything that attracts visitors to Costa Rica: exuberant tropical forests, green hills, vibrant sea and pristine beaches. This region offers some of the most attractive beaches and terrain that the country offers. The vegetation changes dramatically from transitional forest in its northern section to pure rainforest in its southern part.

Overnight at the HOTEL BEST WESTERN JACO BEACH, standard room, breakfast included.

Day 10 Jacó – San José :
After breakfast, transfer to airport or take advantage of one of the many beach extensions available.
