Gallo Pinto (literally 'spotted rooster') is a tasty mixture of seasoned rice and beans that is traditionally served for breakfast, sometimes with 'natilla' (sour cream) or 'huevos fritos/revueltos' (fried/scrambled eggs). The Gallo Pinto package includes all the Costa Rican essentials tropical jungles and cloud forests boasting exuberant flora and fauna.
Day 1 Arrival / San Jose

Meet & greet at the international airport and transfer to the quaint Hotel Britannia for your first night in Costa Rica(B).
Day 2-3 Tortuguero
:
After breakfast, early morning departure for Tortuguero. Enjoy a scenic drive through the Braulio Carillo National Park and then a three-hour boat trip to the canals of Tortuguero. During your two-night stay, the guided boat tours through the canals will entertain and educate you. Toucans, parrots, howler and white-faced monkeys, caimans, a variety of water and seafowl, and poison dart frogs will keep your eyes roaming for hours. (B/L/D)

Day 4 San Jose
:
Enjoy the short flight back to San Jose after breakfast. Transfer back to Hotel Britannia. Day at leisure for exploring San Jose and the surrounding Central Valley. (B)
Day 5-6 Monteverde
:
Morning pickup at Hotel Britannia for the scenic drive to Monteverde. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is one of the most diverse and richest tropical cloud forests in the New World and home to the resplendent Quetzal and the rare bell bird. Monteverde is not only interesting for the Cloud Forest Reserve's inhabitants, but also for its founders, the Quakers. Hotel Belmar or similar hotel will be your home-base for two nights. After check in feel free to explore your new surroundings. The next morning you will set out to discover the secrets of the misty forest with its dense vegetation and majestic trees at Monteverde Cloud Forest.
Enjoy an afternoon tour at a butterfly garden where you will see many species of tropical butterflies native to Costa Rica. Then on to the Sendero Tranquilo for a chance to spot the two toed sloth, coatimundis and monkeys. (B)
Day 7 San Jose
:
Return to San Jose after breakfast. The rest of the afternoon and evening at leisure to explore. Overnight at Hotel Britannia. (B)
Day 8 Departure
:
Transfer to the international airport and flight home. (B)

What to Bring:
- Clothing: Costa Rica is a very informal and casual country. Formal attire is only used in the city of San Jose and on very special occasions (Weddings, birthdays, anniversaries)
- We recommend to bring a sweater for the highland areas, and light loose fitting shirts, pants or jeans, and shorts for the lowland areas.
- For the beach areas please don't forget to bring a hat or cap, sunscreen, and sun glasses.
- For the rainforest and the National Parks we recommend hiking boots, a small backpack, water bottle, pocket knife, flashlight, insect repellent, rainwear, and a pair of binoculars to observe animals.
