This park is named after the active Rincon de la Vieja Volcano. Being one of the most accessible volcanoes of the area, you can reach the numerous cones, craters, and lagoons either on horseback or by foot. In here you will also find fumaroles and boiling mud pools, steam vents, and sulfurous hotsprings with therapeutic properties.
In the area there are a couple of comfortable hotels & lodges, mostly cozy, wood paneled cabins. Hot springs and mud baths are one of the main attractions at these beautiful mountain lodges.
To Rincon de la Vieja National Park From Liberia take the Panamerican highway #1 North. After approximately 3 kilometers you will find the signs to Rincon de la Vieja National Park. Turn right on a gravel road and continue driving to the town of Curubande. Continue driving through this road and you will find the signs of the 2 lodges of the area, Hacienda Guachipelin and Rincon de la Vieja Lodge. On the road you will find a closed gate. Please honk and someone will come out and charge you U.S.$2 per car for the use of this private road. You will find first the Hacienda Guachipelin, and then Rincón de la Vieja Lodge.
