The hotel Villas Caletas is located on the Central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, on a rain forest hill top with a heavenly 180 degree panoramic view that sweeps over the gulf islands of Nicoya Peninsula to the crescent beaches of Jaco, Herradura and Punta Leona. It is considered one of the best places in Costa Rica for watching the sunset while having a cool tropical cocktail.
Inspired by French-colonial architecture and the style of Victorian homes still found in San José, Villa Caletas expresses a truly unique combination of mountain and seaside resort. Looming 1150 feet above the Pacific Ocean, the hotel shines like a jewel among resorts, prized not only for location, design and décor, but also for outstanding facilities.
The vast, deep-blue pool with an "infinity" edge creates the illusion of being one with the ocean. In the main building the resort offers a nice selection of souvenirs, gifts and nature books.
One of the most dramatic features at Villa Caletas is the Greek amphitheatre. Eight lonic columns grace the 150-capacity structure overlooking the Pacific Ocean and a primary forest. Concerts, arts performances, weddings and private parties take place here during the year.
Puntarenas, Costa Rica
The trip takes between 1 1/2 to 2 hours driving from San Jose. When leaving San José take the main highway (Carretera Interamericana) going North towards Puntarenas. The highway will pass the Juan Santa María airport. Stay on the Interamericana for about 10-15 minutes more, until you see an exit for a town (pueblo) called Atenas. There is a sign that reads Atenas / Orotina / Jaco. Take this exit and continue driving following the signs to Jaco. After 40 minutes you would get down to San Mateo town, when you see an intersection turn left to Orotina, following the signs to Jacó or Punta Leona (35 km). From Punta Leona main entrance, continue on the same highway for 3 km. You will reach the Hotel Villa Caletas sign on the right hand side. Follow the private road towards the hotel (2km).
