Arenal Observatory Lodge - Arenal Volcano Costa Rica

Set on a ridge 1.7 miles from the Arenal Volcano, Arenal Observatory Lodge offers the adventurous traveler front row-seating for one of the world's most thrilling fireworks display, the volcanic eruption of Arenal. The hotel sits in a private nature reserve in the heart of one of Costa Rica's greenest areas, where volcanic grounds support primary and secondary rainforests while waterfalls and crystalline rivers offer sparkling jungle refreshment.

The lodge features 45 comfortable rooms, most of them with a great view of the volcano and the extravagant green surroundings. A well marked and manicured trail system traverses the property and provides easy access to the breathtaking rainforest and magnificent views of the volcano. An infinity swimming pool tiled in cobalt blue offers refreshment and a sunken bubbling jacuzzi provides soothing relaxation beneath a glass gazebo that frames the volcano's peak against a starry sky. La Fortuna, San Carlos

From San José it is a 2 ½ hour drive. Take the North Pan-American Highway that passes through the International Airport. Continue driving, following the signs to San Ramòn. Once you arrive in downtown San Ramòn continue driving following the signs to LA Fortuna. Once you arrive to La Fortuna, continue through town towards Tabacón and the Arenal National Park. After Tabacón continue driving for 4 km and just before reaching Lake Arenal you will come to a marked turn-off for the National Park entrance. Take this left turn-off and continue driving for 9 kilometers along a somewhat rough dirt road. Once you pass the park entrance follow the signs for the Arenal Observatory Lodge. A four-wheel drive vehicle is recommended in the rainy season, and high clearance is always useful.
