Restaurant and bar, 850 hectares of private reserve, library, guided tours (adventure tours, bird watching, horseback riding, rappel, waterfalls, tree-climbing, canopy exploration, hiking), observation platform, river and creek pools.
We have 7 spacious standard rooms, (cabins or cabanas) and 4 even more spacious superior rooms. Each one of our cabins has solar heated warm water and a tastefully appointed, tiled and rather ample restroom and shower area. The rooms were built following Caribbean style using stilts as their bases. This architectonic tradition of the Caribbean originally had two main purposes: one is to avoid sleeping in a flooded room when floods occurred, and the other main idea behind the stilts, is that it keeps insects away. Each of the spaciouscabins has a full size and a queen size bed (standard rooms) or two queen size beds (superior rooms). All of the rooms are separated from each other by at least 30 feet from any other cabin because we planted ‘natural walls’ of exotic heliconia plants in between them. We offer a secluded, intimate and refined atmosphere. All the cabins at Selva Bananito Ecolodge offer spectacular views from the ample decks they were designed with. You will find two hammocks in each deck.
All rates are per room per night in USD & do not include hotel tax 13%!
Selva Bananito is a secluded rainforest lodge located 40 minutes away from Puerto Limón in the middle of a 850 hectares private property with two thirds of the land dedicated to a primary rain forest reserve. The other third of the lodge's land (about 416 hectares or 1,000 acres) is devoted to low-impact, sustainable agriculture and cattle management. The private reserve which Selva Bananito supports, is only a 10-minute walk from the lodge and it offers a rain forest study program for high school and college students, a Spanish immersion program as well as nature and adventure tours. In order to minimize the impact of tourists on this pristine rain forest environment, the reserve allows only a small number of visitors at one time.
The lodge's cabins stand on stilts, in a traditional Caribbean style which reduces moisture inside the buildings and improves the view and ventilation. The hotel has a rancho with a nice dining area where meals are served, bar and a small library.
Guests at Selva Bananito will enjoy guided rain forest tours, outstanding bird watching or rappeling down a jungle waterfall. They will explore the canopy of gigantic trees, cool off in clean streams before taking a horseback ride through a sea of greens, sip a refreshing local drink while listening to the sounds of the night or visit nearby beaches.
Limón
Take the highway #32 through the Braulio Carrillo National Park and follow directions to Limón. Once in Limón, take the road to Cahuita to your right (South) through a road which parallels the coast. After 18 km along this road you will drive over a bridge that crosses the Río Vizcaya, afterwards you will see a blue-roofed house on your right and a sign to Cahuita, Sixaola, etc. Turn right shortly after this large sign and drive over a gravel road for about 4 km to the small town of Bananito Norte. Look for the railroad tracks and "SALON DELIA." Continue driving passing the tracks. After approximately 3 km you will cross your first creek. Continue driving and when you reach a "Y" in the road, take the right arm. About 3.5 km after the first creek you will reach a second creek. Drive through the water over the cement platform. About 2.7 after this second creek, you will reach a river. Look for car tracks and follow them across. About 3-5 minutes after this river crossing, you will reach a large, wooden gate. This gate marks the beginning of Selva Bananito´s property. After the gate, follow the yellow arrows to get to the lodge.
