Shawandha Lodge - Puerto Viejo Costa Rica

Shawandha Lodge is located on the southern Caribbean coast, a unique exotic region famous for its diverse flora and fauna, its vibrant slow rhythm and its relaxed and friendly people. The lodge features spacious bungalows individually decorated in neo-primitive style with an artistic blend of wood, ceramics and palm roofs. At Shawandha, guests will enjoy watching the peaceful natural surroundings, lazing in a hammock or relaxing at the beach.

During the day visitors can choose between taking a boat trip tour to watch dolphins, take a guided tour through the tropical forest reserves or glide over the coral reef in a glass bottom boat. Other activities include horseback riding through pristine beaches, snorkeling or scuba diving, surfing the waves of the Caribbean, river or sea kayaking, visiting butterfly and iguana farms, botanical gardens, bird watching or visiting the local Indian reserves.

Puerto Viejo.

From San José, the trip lasts about three and a half hours. Take the Braulio Carrillo highway # 32. Continue driving through Guápiles, Siquirres, Matina until you get to Limón City. Just before arriving downtown Limón you will pass through a cemetery. Continue through this road for 1 km until you see a sign on your right to Cahuita and Puerto Viejo. Turn to the right and drive through the coastline road passing Cahuita, Hone Creek and finally Puerto Viejo. We do not recommend driving through the Braulio Carrillo Highway at night since it gets foggy and visibility is very limited.
