Cocos Island, located 600 km (approx. 320 nautical miles) off the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, is one of the most beautiful jewels in the Costa Rican National Park system. Of the principal islands of the Eastern Tropical Pacific (Cocos, Clipperton, Malpelo and Galapagos), it is the only one that receives sufficient rainfall to support a tropical rain forest. Since Cocos is an oceanic island, it has relatively few species, some having their origin as far away as the Indian Ocean.

Escape to Cocos Island a lush, green uninhabited island resting 375 miles off Costa Rica's Pacific coast. Rocky pinnacles surrounding Cocos are beacons for big animals and big action. Schooling hammerheads, countless white-tip sharks, mantas, tuna and even whale sharks call Cocos home. Weather permitting, Guests are shuttled ashore to hike through the jungles of Cocos and swim in her many waterfalls.

Transfers from San Jose are provided on the day of departure. An overnight stay is required in San Jose prior to the charter.

Baggage LimitationsPack lightly since you will be dressing for warm tropical weather. Airlines have baggage limitations that can affect divers and photographers. Domestic airlines limit passengers to two pieces of check-in luggage. International flights also have a two piece limit and a limit of 70 lbs. per bag. You will be charged for any extra bags or overweight luggage. Some airlines do not allow extra bags or overweight luggage during certain times of the year. At Customs there are no limitations on the personal equipment such as diving, camera and video equipment as well as computers that are for personal use. Gear to Bring With YouYou will need the following gear: 3-5 mm (1/8" to 3/16") wetsuit, mask, fins, snorkel, regulator with visible pressure gauge, a mandatory dive computer, buoyancy compensator, depth gauge, dive gloves, weight belt (without weights), dive knife, dive light, and dive watch. It is recommended that you mark each piece of gear with waterproof paint or tape. We suggest you put all or most of the above items in a carry-on bag. There is ample storage space for your diving equipment, including your own personal locker.

Pick up from certain hotels in San Jose and transfer by bus to Puntarenas where you will board the vessel. The drive takes about 2 hours, and gives you a chance to see the lush forest and rich farmland of the region. 

Due to occasional low tides our boats may need to depart from the pier earlier in the day. Should this occur, you will be transferred by skiff to the vessel. Aboard the vessel When all passengers have arrived on board, the vessel will take a 32-36 hour cruise out to Cocos Island.

You will have time to arrange dive and camera gear, enjoy the Pacific Ocean and get to know the other divers. Surely, you have plenty of stories to share with them. The Captain and crew will show you videos of their experiences to help you get excited for the diving. In addition, you may want to take advantage of this time to take one of our technical diving courses.

Spend diving the pinnacles around the perimeter of Cocos Island. Divers usually average two dives per day at depths of 60-100 feet (18-30 meters) or more. This, of course, is what the whole trip is about. Water temperature of approximately 78-82F (27-30C). Do a total of 21 during the whole trip!

Make the last 3 dives before the cruise back to Costa Rica and reality!

Arrival to Puntarenas. Immediately after breakfast, you will be brought back to San Jose. We strongly recommend staying one more night on land, before flying out, in case of any unforeseen delays.
