The history goes back to ancient times. The story tells that Valentin was a Christian bishop who defended marriage during times when Emperor Claudius III prohibited his men to be emotionally involved with any women.
Valentin blessed marriages in secret, until he was discovered and put into jail. Later, he was executed on February 14.
This is one of many stories around this date, however, the most important part, is that it is a day to think about that special someone, to express your love or friendship.
