Lapa Rios - Osa Peninsula / Corcovado Costa Rica

Lapa Rios is built in harmony with the surrounding forest and beach environment. The main lodge and bungalows line three ridges which are connected by walking paths. Built over 350 feet above the sea, Lapa Rios catches the cooling tropical breezes. The main lodge, housing the restaurant and bar, soars 50 feet and is built of local, natural materials. Palm thatched roofs meet a three-story hardwood circular stairway. Comfortable, locally made bamboo furniture adds to relaxation in this tranquil panorama of nature.

Activities at Lapa Rios are focused around the rainforest and the nearby ocean. Rainforest hikes, bird watching, ocean kayaking, horseback riding, catch and release sport fishing and surfing are some of the activities offered to visitors.

Playa Carbonera, Osa Peninsula

Driving from San Jose takes approximately 7 to 10 hours depending on stops, sightseeing, weather, and road conditions. By road from San Jose take the Panamerican Highway South to San Isidro de General (2 to 3.5 hrs) Continue through Buenos Aires (1 to 1.5 Hrs) to Palmar Norte (1 to 1.5 hrs). 21 miles (33 km) past Palmar Norte make a right turn at Chacarita. At Chacarita you will see a service station by the name of Corcovado. The right turn to Puerto Jimenez is directly after the service station. On this paved road you will drive 27 miles (44 km) to Rincon where the paved road ends. 20 miles (33km) ahead will take you through La Palma and eventually on to Puerto Jimenez (1 to 2 hrs). Arriving in Puerto Jimenez follow the signs for Lapa Ríos. The hotel is 12 miles South of Puerto Jimenez at Playa Carbonera, Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica, Central America.
