Monteverde
If you drive to Monteverde from San Jose you need to take the Inter American Highway, the same one that passes next to the Juan Santamaria International Airport, and follow the signs to Puntarenas and then to Cañas and Bagaces. Stay on this road and just before the bridge at Lagartos take the gravel road to the right. At this point you will have travelled 100 miles (160 km) from San Jose. You will travel then for 20 more miles (35 km) on this dirt road all the way up to Monteverde. After you pass the town of Santa Elena, on the road to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, you will find El Establo about half a mile further on the left side of the road.
El Establo is a hotel located in the heart of the conservation area of Monteverde Costa Rica, 7 kms from the Santa Elena Rain Forest and 4 kms from the Monteverde Cloud Forest.
