From San Jose take the road to Limon that passes through the Braulio Carillo National Park and the Rainforest Aerial Tram, which curves to the northeast. Approximately 8 miles past the Rainforest Aerial Tram, turn left on Route 4. You will travel north on Route 4 until you reach the town of Puerto Viejo. At the stop sign, turn left on Route 9 and travel 5 miles west until you encounter the Selva Verde Lodge on the left side of the road.
Selva Verde is a rainforest lodge built on stilts over the Sarapiqui river. This expansive complex stands on the edge of a 2-square km private reserve of rain forest. Its 40 rustic but comfortable rooms are raised on pillars over the jungle and they are all connected by covered walkways that lead to a riverside dining room were meals are served buffet-style and an open lounge area with wide verandas.
Selva Verde has received a green raiting from the new key to Costa Rica for its commitment to enviromental education and community support. Its owners, long concerned with the wellbeing of the local community, have established the Sarapiqui Conservation Learning Center, with the only library in the area, a day-care center, and English environmental classes.
Around the area guests can enjoy hiking with one of the lodge's naturalist guides and learn about the primary rain-forest environment, glide down the Sarapiqui River in search of caimans, howler monkeys,iguanas birds and horse back riding or take an early morning tour to explore the prolific fauna around the Sarapiqui region.
40 river lodge rooms: located near the Sarapiqui river above the rainforest floor on elevated platforms over the rainforest with spacious wooden verandas with hammocks elevated views, screened windows with private shutters, private bathrooms wth hot water hair dryers, safety boxes and ceiling fans.
5 bungalows: discretely tucked in the forest near our butterfly garden with spacious balconies, screened windows with private shutters, private bathrooms with hot water, air conditioning, 2 bathrobes, coffee maker and morning coffee supplies, refrigerator, safes.
Restaurant, fans, library, butterfly garden, laundry service, 2 pools, dining room and bar and gift shop, meeting rooms 500 acres of private rainforest.
The dining room and bar overlook the magnificent Sarapiqui River just at the point that our bridge to the Reserve stretches across it. The delicious buffet-style dining is a combination of local and international cuisine. The Selvita Bar is located below the dining area, also overlooking the beautiful Sarapiqui River. All types of refreshments and soft drinks can be enjoyed as well as beer, wine, and spirits both local and international.
