El Sapo Dorado restaurant is known for the creativity, variety, flavor, freshness, and presentation of our food from breakfast to dinner.
The menu always includes a choice of whole grains, vegetarian and vegan dishes, pastas, seafood, chicken, as well as beef, pork, and decadent desserts. Organic produce is used whenever possible. The recipes are all unique to El Sapo Dorado or are original adaptations of old favorites. Special dietary needs are easily accommodated with advance notice.
The restaurant bar is fully equipped and the staff trained to prepare any classic delight as well as the most exotic of cocktails. We devote ourselves to seeing that quality remains consistent and that service improves daily.

El Sapo Dorado is a mountain lodge strategically located near the town of Santa Elena and the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. It offers 30 bungalow style suites secluded around the abundant green gardens. Guests will feel as if they were in their own private cabin in the middle of the rainforest. The suites have been designed to provide a comfortable and cozy atmosphere and some of them have a fireplace that will warm up guests on chilly nights while they relax enjoying a cup of hot chocolate with the crackling sound of burning wood.
At Sapo Dorado guests can walk along the private trails that extend for about 3 miles (5 km) into the cloud forest, bordering the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. They can explore both primary and secondary forests as they open into pastures with panoramic views of the Gulf of Nicoya. The whole area of Monteverde is beautiful and some find it hard to believe that there are still places like it in the world.

In order to get to drive to Monteverde from San Jose you need to take the Inter American Highway, the same one that passes next to Juan Santamaria International Airport. Follow the signs to Puntarenas and then to Cañas and Bagaces. Keep on this road and take a right before the bridge at Lagartos (there is a sign for Monteverde). At this point you will have traveled 100 miles (160 km) from San Jose. You will travel then for 20 miles (35 km) on a dirt road all the way up to Monteverde. El Sapo Dorado is less than a mile just out of Santa Elena on the road to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve.
