This region has some of the most attractive beaches and terrain that the country offers. The vegetation changes dramatically from transitional forest in its northern section to pure rainforest in its southern part. This area includes many popular vacation spots like swimming and surfing beach resorts, sport-fishing towns, well-developed and almost undeveloped beaches, a biological reserve, a national marine park and the famous Carara National Park.
