What to bring:
Clothing: Costa Rica is a very informal and casual country. Formal attire is only used in the city of San Jose and on very special occasions (Weddings, birthdays, anniversaries)
We recommend to bring a sweater for the highland areas, and light loose fitting shirts, pants or jeans, and shorts for the lowland areas.
For the beach areas please don´t forget to bring a hat or cap, sunscreen, and sun glasses.
For the rainforest and the National Parks we recommend hiking boots, a small backpack, water bottle, pocket knife, flashlight, insect repellent, rainwear, and a pair of binoculars to observe animals.

We took some of the best trekking and combined them with the best White Water Rafting and Kayaking in Tortuguero.
Ríos Tropicales and Mawamba Lodge are setting up the first paddling adventure, in sea kayaks, straight into the heartland of this National Park. There's no better way to enjoy Tortuguero's natural wonders than quietly navigating through it's amazing network of rivers, lagoons and canals.
Itinerary:
Day 01 (Pacuare Whitewater Rafting – Class III/IV)
Depart from San José, driving approximately 3 hours to the put in. Breakfast en route. At the put in you’ll rig your raft and begin the journey downriver. This river has been declared a Wild and Scenic River, and offers some of the finest white water in Latin America, providing
the adventurous rafter with a ride of unbelievable natural beauty as it winds deep inside one of Costa Rica’s most impressive primordial rainforests. Lunch on the riverbank before
the afternoon take out at which time you can shower and change into dry clothes.
Transfer will then be provided to the Rainforest Aerial Tram facilities.
Arrival to the Rain Forest Aerial Tram where you will be greet and welcomed by their friendly staff. At this boarding area you will be invited to board for the tractor experience,as you will enter the facility in an open-aircoach pulled by a tractor. A stop will be done
for a short walk through the hanging bridge, where you can experience the fascination of the forest and the clear fresh water river that is filled with machacas, a local fish.
Dinner included that night.
Nightly Butterfly presentation by an expert naturalist guide where the you will have the opportunity of learning about the different kinds of butterflies that exist at our Forest .
Overnight at the Rainforest Lodge, jungle bungalows.
Day 02 (Trekking)
If you have an explorer’s spirit and a desire to get to know the rainforest, you will love this adventure. This hike offers plenty of action, tempered with time to explore the rainforest and the Corinto River.
The journey begins at the main building where you will board the tram. Enjoy a tram ride until you reach Tower # 12. where you will begin the hike down to the Corinto River.
Along the way there are small but difficult ascents and at times a bit of mud adds to the adventure and challenge.
Once you reach the river, you can take a refreshing dip on one of the river’s natural pools. Enjoy a picnic style lunch and then hike back to the Tower 12 where you will board the tram again back to the main building.

Day 03 (Kayacking to Tortuguero)
Early morning pick up at the lodge. Breakfast will be served on the way.
Now in the Atlantic lowlands, travel through Banana plantations until you reach the starting point in the Tortuguero National Park Ranger Station. Guides will begin the briefing
to become familiarized with your kayaks, gear and safety issues. Starting at the boundary of National Park on the Tortuguero River will be the most unique experience. Lunch will
be along the way after padding down the river, in the middle of the Parks tropical forest.
After lunch, you will continue to meander in this lush forest with amazing flora and fauna.
Late afternoon arrival at Mawamba Lodge, welcome cocktail and dinner here tonight.

Day 04 (Kayacking to Samay Lagoon)
After a complete breakfast you will be shuttled by boat about 25 miles towards the Colorado River, passing through Penitencia Canal until we arrive Samay Laguna. Here you will board the kayaks for a three to four hour exploration of this area. The magical entrance to Laguna Nueve and a brief visit to the beach will be some of today’s highlights.
Wonderful clean water and total solitude will be part of the experience. Lunch will be served at the site. Late afternoon return back to Mawamba Lodge.

Day 05 (Kayacking to Tortuguero Hills)
Today’s paddle is designed to be very flexible, several options will be available to paddle from and back to Mawamba Lodge. You may want to visit Caño Palma Biological Station, or paddle to the Tortuguero hills and take a hike. Lunch at Mawamba Lodge.
Afternoon free to chose from a number of tours or plain relax around the poolside.
Dinner at Mawamba. Optional night-time turtle viewing tour (during Season From Julyto September).

Day 06 (Return to San Jose)
After breakfast, board the boat for the return trip to Matina, Mawamba’s private dock, where your bus will be waiting in order to return to San José, lunch will be along the way at Río Danta Restaurant.
